What is infertility?
A couple may be considered infertile after one year of failed attempts to get naturally pregnant. After that, they need to go to a Human Reproduction professional so that he can investigate what the problem is.
If a woman is already over 35 or presents multiple abortions, and it has already been six months of failed attempts; the couple should consult a professional.
It’s worth noting that the cause for infertility may be in both man and woman. So it’s necessary that both pass through the proper exams so that we can achieve success in an Assisted Reproduction process.
What are female infertility main causes?
Usually they are the following:
- Advanced age: After 35 years of age, a woman’s reproduction potential is dramatically reduced due to a reduction in the quality and the amount of egg cells she has left.
- Diseases or disturbs in a woman’s reproductive organs, such as endometriosis and fibroids.
- Uterine tubes damage (Pelvic inflammatory disease, for instance)
- Ovulation threatening hormonal disturbs, such as Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome
- Early menopause
What are male infertility main causes?
Usually they are the following:
- Azoospermia: sperm productions disturbs regarding their amount and quality
- Ejaculation or erection problems
- Genital area inflammations , such as orchitis, prostatitis and epididymitis
- Infections caused by HPV (Human papilloma virus)
- Varicocele (Testicles expanded veins)
- Hormonal disturbs, such as low testosterone production or thyroid issues
Other factors that may put both male and female fertility at stake are sexually transmitted infections such as Gonorrhea and Chlamydia; chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, obesity, thyroid diseases, asthma or depression; genetic disturbs; use of anabolic steroids and the use of certain medicines such as antidepressants.
