It is estimated that 40% percent of infertility cases have to do with men’s reproductive system disturbs, as well as 40% with women’s and 20% are related to both.
One of the main reasons for male infertility is Azoospermia (when there’s no sperm in the ejaculated fluid). It may happen because of a lack of sperm production in the testicles or because the ducts that should lead the sperm from the testicles to the urethra are being blocked.
In cases that the sperm production is ok, but they’re being blocked (for whatever reason), the sperm can be extracted through a surgery and be used in Assisted Reproduction processes.
Besides that, there are other frequent causes for male infertility, such as varicocele, hormonal or genetic imbalance and infections (like HPV – Human Papillomavirus, prostatitis, urethritis and urinary infection).
Usually men tend to visit the doctor in their childhood, then when they’re teenagers, but then there’s quite a gap until they reach around the age of 40, which is when they feel the need to be examined again, due to prostate issues…
